Gaja Indigo Cushion Cover

INDIGO IS A NATURAL PLANT DYE EXTRACT AND IS CONSIDERED TO BE ONE OF THE OLDEST NATURAL DYES IN THE WORLD.

Before block printing the design, the fabric is soaked in harda, a natural mordant which allows the indigo dye to bind to the textile. Once the wooden blocks are hand-carved with the designs, the printers stamp the dabu onto the treated cloth. The part of the fabric covered in mud resists the print and will not take on the indigo colour.

After printing with dabu, a layer of fine sawdust is sprinkled over the wet dabu to prevent the fabric from sticking to itself once submerged in the dye vat. Using a wooden stick, the fabric is slowly dipped into the indigo vat. This process may be repeated several times to achieve the desired shade of indigo.

Printed on both sides with a striking foliage design, the tassels on each corner beautifully complement the colours of the design with a zip closure cleverly concealed underside. Bring a touch of the exotic to any space with this earth-friendly and stylish accessory.

These indigo cushion covers may bleed with the first few washes and we recommend hand washing separately in cold water. Spot clean or hand wash separately in cold water and hang on the line to dry. Please be careful to avoid rubbing our indigo cushion covers on light fabrics as dye transfer may occur.
